Dr. Tiemann and Prof. Chris McKenna Discuss History of Commerce as part of the Fort Ross Dialogue Panel
On November 2, Dr Tiemann participated in a panel discussion for the Fort Ross Dialogue, the annual policy and history conference of the Fort Ross Conservancy, on the Pacific coast in Sonoma County, California. The Conservancy looks after the historical integrity of the reconstructions and exhibits at Fort Ross State Historic Park, the restoration of the colony the Russian-American Company maintained on the site from 1812 to 1841.
The 2021 Fort Ross Dialogue took place over most of the day and included former Governor Jerry Brown and other dignitaries. There were three separate panels and Dr. Tiemann participated in Panel 3. In the attached video, Igor Polischuk, Director of External Relations for the Fort Ross Conservancy, interviews Dr Tiemann, now an Associated Researcher for the University of Oxford, and Professor Christopher McKenna, faculty director of the Global History of Capital project at the University of Oxford, about Dr Tiemann’s research on the economic history of California in the first half of the 19th century. Please see Dr. Tiemann’s page at the Global History of Capital project to download and read either of Dr. Tiemann’s two case studies.
